My travel style: Why I always seek out nature everywhere I go

In case you haven’t already read my ‘about me’ page, I’m Caitlin, and I live in New Zealand! My love for travel and seeing new places started pretty young, with my parents always prioritising getting my siblings and me outside whenever they could. This included simple things like getting us to play in the garden or biking around the neighbourhood to bigger trips where we’d go camping in the school holidays. With limited money and four children (including me), they still made it work with budget campgrounds and activities in nature instead of big extravagant holidays. Our camping destinations were always within a five hour drive and even though we’d often go to the same places, it was always a different experience. Although I was a kid who hated bugs and getting dirty, getting out in the fresh air always made me feel better and the older I get the more I’ve realised how important it really is!

As an adult, I’ve been able to travel and see more of my beautiful country than ever before and although I’ve visited every city and just about every town, I know there’s still so much more I haven’t seen in between! New Zealand is filled with so many hidden nature gems and it makes me excited that there’ll always be something here that I haven’t seen. There’s nothing more thrilling than seeing a new landscape, mountain, tree, waterfall or lake, taking a deep breath in and thinking “Wow, that’s stunning”.

This is also why I love seeking out nature when I travel internationally too. Big cities can be great and have their place for fun activities and great food but they’re not exactly relaxing and when I’m on holiday, reconnecting with nature and slowing down a bit is my main priority!

So, if nature travel is also something you’re interested in, follow along! I’ll have plenty of New Zealand content with some international posts sprinkled in there too! Feel free to sign up to my newsletter and I’ll let you know whenever I make a new post 🙂
